2026 marked the third year of our Whole School Picture Book Scheme, where every class in the school explored the same picture book through age-appropriate activities and discussion. The scheme encourages a shared love of reading across the school community while developing creativity, comprehension, oral language, and critical thinking skills.
Over the past three years, we have enjoyed working with a range of high-quality picture books, including Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne, After the Fall by Dan Santat, and Milo Imagines the World by Matt de la Peña. We link with our local library to source these books and the wonderful staff in Douglas Library are always happy to help.
The shared reading experience allows pupils to engage with common themes and stories throughout the school, while also celebrating imagination, empathy, diversity, and a love of literature.
